workplace health matters now more than ever

Only 37% of people are thriving at work (Indeed). What shapes wellbeing most? Belonging. With hybrid working now the norm, the workplace has evolved into a cultural hub—a place to foster connection, inclusion, and community.

Findings from our Evolving Workplaces: Find your space to thrive report show that over half of employees see spending time with colleagues as the main advantage of going to the office. While many value the flexibility of home working, frequent remote work can shrink social and professional networks—highlighting the vital role of the workplace in maintaining human connection. When organisations get environment and culture right, the payoff is clear: healthier employees, stronger engagement, and better business performance.

“If it’s a healthy culture where you can grow, develop, and feel accepted, work becomes a positive contributor to your health.”

The six pillars of workplace health

1) Culture & Belonging

What it means: An inclusive, trusted culture where people feel part of something bigger.
What we do: Team rituals and recognition, manager 1:1s that include wellbeing, hybrid-friendly social touchpoints.
How we know it’s working: Belonging scores, eNPS/referrals, voluntary turnover trends.

2) Mental Resilience & Psychological Safety

What it means: People can speak up, learn from mistakes, and manage load without burnout.
What we do: Leader training in feedback and workload balance, access to mental health resources, clear escalation paths.
How we know it’s working: Psychological safety scores, stress indicators, sick-day patterns, incident reports.

3) Purpose & Recognition

What it means: Work feels meaningful—and great work is noticed.
What we do: Tie tasks to client/community outcomes, frequent specific recognition, visible career paths and micro-credentials.
How we know it’s working: Purpose/recognition scores, promotion velocity, badge completion, retention.

4) Physical Health & Safety

What it means: Safe, ergonomic, hygienic conditions—by design, not by chance.
What we do: Ergonomics checks, PPE and safe chemical handling, air-quality and ventilation standards, incident-prevention playbooks.
How we know it’s working: Incident rates (TRIR/LTI), near-miss capture, IAQ metrics, audit/compliance scores.

5) Work Design & Enablement

What it means: Clear SOPs, the right tools, and fair schedules that make good work easier.
What we do: Photo-verified checklists, time-on-task visibility, predictable rosters and handovers, removal of low-value steps.
How we know it’s working: First-pass quality, rework rate, adherence to plan, tool adoption.

6) Environment & Sustainability

What it means: Spaces and materials that support focus—and respect the planet.
What we do: Optimise light, acoustics, and layout; green chemistries and dose control; waste diversion and transparent ESG reporting.
How we know it’s working: IAQ/light/noise scores, waste diversion %, green product adoption %, energy use.

Bottom line: When organisations invest across these six pillars, workplaces become engines of belonging, resilience, and performance—and the benefits compound for people, clients, and the business.
